COVID Update, June 17

Milky Way over Loon Bay, June 17

Dear Friends,

When we look out at the lake these days, it’s hard to imagine that there is a global pandemic going on. It all seems so unreal, because, up here, everything is so far away; nature moves on at its own pace, the waves lap and the fish still bite. The only difference is how quiet the lake seems.

While things are moving towards more normal operations, progress is slower than some might like. The Quebec government has lifted the single-family restriction on outfitter accommodations and we are now permitted to have up to ten people in a cabin from up to three different households. Given that we’ll have extra cabins available, we are able to spread out groups into additional cabins if needed to accommodate guests. The Ontario-Quebec border is open and we are in full operation, while adhering to new cleaning and distancing measures.

Yesterday, the Canadian government announced that the U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel until July 21. We have been in contact with most of our guests from the States who are booked in June and the first part of July to reschedule their trips. For some, it will mean experiencing the lake later in the season. I imagine that once you try late summer fishing, you might wonder why you haven’t been here in August or September before. It really is a great time to be on Lake Kipawa.

We really want to thank you, our friends and guests, for being so understanding and adaptable during this time. It’s not an easy time for many, but your support and patience does make it easier. We thank those of you who have been spreading the word that we are open and the guests here are catching some big fish (a 32” walleye was released this week!)

When this passes, the fish will be bigger and more plentiful, and the beauty of Two Moon Point will be appreciated that much more. Hang in there folks!
